Guantanamo inmates are being fed to lions

Here's something the local news media won't report:

Red Cross: Gitmo Conditions Better:
"Conditions for detainees at the US military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have improved "considerably" over the past four years, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross said Tuesday." -Military.com

Guantanamo better than Belgian prisons:
"-Inmates at Guantanamo Bay prison are treated better than in Belgian jails, an expert for Europe's biggest security organization said on Monday after a visit to the controversial U.S. detention center" -ABC News

And in case someone missed this remarkable turn:
"In all, 558 people were named in the list provided by the Pentagon on Wednesday in response to a Freedom of Information lawsuit by The Associated Press. They were among the first swept up in the U.S. global war on terrorism for suspected links to al-Qaida or the Taliban." -Military.com

Privileges are NOT Capitalism

Sosialistiliitto

The whole point of laissez faire is to get the government off people's backs. Granting privileges is not according to the rules of free market Capitalism. But still many on the left refer to corrupt politicians and those enjoying economic privileges as advocates of Capitalism and, as the article above hints, they think that it's justified to put the blame on Capitalism when a bunch of corrupt leaders make up their own market rules. Socialists don't understand simple terms like "free markets" and "laissez faire".
Venezuela had a chance to keep its markets (which had become too dependent on oil) open and introduce further liberalizations when things started to go downhill during the 80s. This didn't happen. They chose the wrong path and started regulating (Check Free the World and choose "Venezuela" from the drop-down menu). Today Venezuela is one of the world's least free economies with both poverty and unemployment rates sky-high.

Found an amazing troll (thanks Rene); Check Shelley, The Republican blog for some amazing shit like Linux: A European threat to our computers.
One could speculate that she's just a troll, likely a hardcore Democrat, but with the way things are these days - you never know.

Bush - a blood-sucking vampire

Old news but worthy. Let's refute another myth that's quite popular among the left.

Myth:
Under Bush, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

From Johan Norberg:
"The latest data shows that average family income in the US declined between 2001 and 2004. Some use figures like that to argue that the American model is only working for the rich. Therefore, it´s worth noting that the decline is a result of the richest getting poorer, whereas other groups have made gains."

"Here is the change in average family real income in dollars 2001-2004, from David Mastio:"

Bottom 20% of families 100
Next 20% 400
Next 20% 500
Next 20% -300
Next 10% 2,100
Top 10% -20,300

Sources: Federal Reserve, Johan Norberg, Mikko Särelä.

Sure - the overall poverty rate has increased during Bush from 11.3% to almost 12.7% (most of which is short-term anyway) in 2004. But it's not like Bush has tried to take money from the poor - Bush is known for spending like a socialist although he and his fellows claim to be "small-government" Republicans. And no - this isn't because of an increase in defense spending. Compared to Bush, Bill Clinton was a small government Republican.

Polishing...

Edited the link section a bit. There's some more pro-liberty stuff out there. Each day our forces grow stronger. Each day we move closer to our goal of driving the commie out of the continent!

The immigrant protests in the United States are a wonderful thing. It's great how the immigrants in the US are ready to fight, peacefully, for their dream to come and work in the US (even at a minimum wage) which doesn't only benefit them but the whole country. The government stays out and everyone benefits! In our belowed EU the immigrants riot and cause pain because they're hated, unemployed and because we have given them the ability to do so. We're letting our politicians restrict our rights and liberties in the name of so-called tolerance. The difference between European and American multiculturalism is that Europe's multiculturalism is born through legislation - artificially.

More pro-liberty, pro-democracy news: The Pentagon has released the names of almost all Gitmo detainees.

Drugs are bad, m'kay?

The local chairman of the Left Youth has been busted for having a cannabis garden in his home. No surprise there but I fail to see the point of both using (for other than medical purposes) cannabis and criminalizing the use of it. Contrary to what Mr. Mackey says, marijuana isn't that bad and not much, if any, worse than alcohol or tobacco. But yes, it's sad that some people need hard drugs to enjoy life. But if you want to stick a needle into your vein and kill yourself (which is NOT the case with marijuana) then fine - I have no reason to object. Besides - our gene pool gets better every time an idiot commits suicide.

Suunnitelmataloutta Ruotsissa

Suunnitelmatalouden tehottomuus nostaa rumaa päätään Ruotsissa (check below for a summary in English):

Ruotsissa monet museot luopuivat viime vuonna sisäänpääsymaksuista.

"Seriously, why are some snobs so opposed to cultural evolution?" -Nirva

English summary: "Free" public museums in Sweden and the heavily subsidized Finnish National Opera are facing serious financial problems pretty much for the same reasons that almost all state-funded institutions are - you can't replace the effectiveness of the price mechanism (which guides the allocation of resources) with economical planning.

Sweden going down, too?

Try reading this article from The Brussels Journal and not become even a bit worried about path we have chosen for ourselves. Sweden is facing massive problems with its immigration policies and this is not because of immigration in general (see the United States, the country of immigrants) but because of the way the Swedish nanny-state treats its immigrants ("Do what the hell you want and we'll pay you").

The Journal article led me to another blog entry about Sweden:

"The number of rape charges in Sweden has tripled in just above twenty years. Rape cases involving children under the age of 15 are six - 6 - times as common today as they were a generation ago"

"Lawyer Ann Christine Hjelm, who has investigated violent crimes in Svea high court, found that 85 per cent of the convicted rapists were born on foreign soil or by foreign parents."

While Europeans have wasted their time complaining about America's failure to fight crime they have helped to create a bunch of social problems that cannot be solved by relying on means that have turned out to be old and ineffective (this actually indicates that the Social Democrats of the Old Europe/Scandinavia, and their voters, have become conservatives). At the same time, the United States has witnessed a major decrease in crime rates.

The left has loved to argue that close to 50% of America's death row population is African-American (and forget that more than half of America's homicides are committed by African-Americans). Again, back to France:

"A trend known from other European countries such as France, where Muslims make up 10% of the general population, but 70% of the prison population"

So much for the European "Social Model".
