Irakilaiset & Husseinin alasajo

BBC:

In most countries, more people think removing Saddam Hussein was a mistake than think it was the right decision.

In 20 countries, there is overall support for US-led forces to withdraw from Iraq in the next few months.

Only in nine of the remaining 15 countries do more people believe US-led forces should remain until the situation is stabilised. Six countries are divided.

The removal of Saddam Hussein in 2003 is seen as a mistake in 21 countries, compared with 11 countries where more people view it as the right decision. Three countries are divided.

Iraqis are the most convinced that the removal of Saddam Hussein was right, with 74% agreeing with the move.

US President George W Bush has ruled out any hasty withdrawal from Iraq, saying the decision to will be made by military commanders, and not under political pressure
.

Pikkupojan mukaan irakilaisten mielipide jäi Helsingin Sanomissa sivumaininnaksi. Satakunnan Kansa, paikallinen vasurilehtemme, kyllä uutisoi tästä mielipidekyselystä, mutta päätti jättää irakilaisten mielipiteen kokonaan huomiotta. Fair & Balanced...

But did you know that despite everything, 77 percent of Iraqis (almost all Shias and Kurds, almost no Sunnis) think that the war was worth it, to get rid of the tyrant?

Ei tarvetta ammattitaidolle

YLE:

Liiankin tuttua. Yhdysvalloissa homma toimii selvästi paremmin. Lainaus kirjasta Cowboy Capitalism (hirveää CATO-propagandaa):

"students who completed high school in 2002: 43.8 percent of those who came from the fifth of households that had the lowest family income were enrolled in college the following October." (lähteiksi listattu Bureau of Labor Statistics ja Department of Education)

Siis Yhdysvalloissa jopa köyhät pääsevät nopeammin aloittamaan jatko-opintonsa kuin suomalaiset abiturientit. Kaikista amerikkalaisista abiturienteista n. 65% on sijoittunut jatko-opintoihin valmistumisen jälkeisenä syksynä.

Online quizzes are fun

European Political Ideologies

Your Results:

1. You are a market liberal. You adhere to the traditional liberal belief in freedom, and take this to mean negative rather than positive freedom - i.e. a slimmed-down state is the best guarantor of freedom. You will therefore support a laissez-faire economic policy, and you will be reasonably tolerant on the social front - though less emphatically so than social liberals.

2. You are an anarcho-capitalist. Anarcho-capitalists take the Jeffersonian belief that "that government is best which governs least", and extend it - "that government is best which governs not at all". The theory of anarcho-capitalism is that the market can replace the state as a regulator of individual behaviour (resulting in private courts, private policing etc.).

3. You are a libertarian conservative. You hold that the free market is the best way of organising economic activity, but you combine this with adherence to more traditional social values of authority and duty.

Why I Hate Russia #1

The Russia Journal:

MOSCOW - Russia’s media and culture watchdog pledged Wednesday to take tough measures against any publications in the country insulting religious feelings.

“Measures envisaged in Russian legislation, including the cancellation [of a body’s] registration, will be taken if some Russian media issue materials insulting religious feelings,” the Federal Service for the Oversight of Legislation in Mass Communications and the Protection of Cultural Heritage said.

Not that it's much better in Finland. Our state-run tv propaganda network YLE "has decided to prohibit showing the Danish cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad in its entertainment programmes" (Helsingin Sanomat)

According to Satakunnan Kansa, a local newspaper, NATO membership would cost Finland about 70 million euros a year. That's only a 3,5% increase. With Russia heading the wrong way it's about time we drop the "let's stay neutral" argument, join NATO and switch from a conscript army to a professional army. We haven't had a credible national defense for years:

Rimpi argues that the credibility of the Finnish Defence Forces is at risk due to budget cutbacks. (Helsingin Sanomat)

The Left declares: It's about racism!

Sosialistiliitto believes that the whole Mohammed cartoon issue is about racism. The article fails to defend freedom of speech or stand up against Islamic extremism. The whole article is, once again, about demonizing the West and evil Western values.
According to Sosialistiliitto the paper that published the Mohammed cartoons, Jyllands-Posten, is being racist because it refuses to mock Christianity and its icons the same way it mocks Islam. So what? Freedom of speech doesn't mean that you have a duty to mock your own beliefs but that you have a right, a liberty, to mock the things you don't happen to like.
Freedom of speech is a lot more important right than anyone's "right" not to be offended.

Jyllands-Posten has received praise for describing positive aspects of immigration. In an EU-competition for Diversity and against discrimination in 2005 it won the second prize for a series of articles describing the positive aspects of immigrants in Denmark -Wikipedia

Like always, the left remains silent about wide-spread racial hatred projected by Muslims on Christians and Jews. In the minds of our fellow left-wing pinkos it's okay for Iran to spew out racial propaganda but when the west dares to criticize the many underdeveloped traits of Arab/Muslim culture it's all about the westerners being racist bigots. The left sees that Israel and the Evil Empire are responsible for the current state of the Arab world and are therefore responsible for any anti-Jewish sentiments. The fact that anti-Jewish propaganda like "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" is being taught at schools across the Arab world doesn't seem to bother them.

And yes - you can find a negative reference to America, George Bush and dead Iraqi civilians from the article. Who'd have thought that the left managed to add a bit of anti-Americanism into that tiny article?

While Europeans are trying to determine which side they're on our American friends have already chosen their side. "Buy Danish" campaigns have boosted sales of Danish products in America.

Not so good news from Sweden:

"The tiny racist party Sverigedemokraterna published a picture of Mohammed in its web magazine. This led the Swedish foreign ministry, led by foreign minister Laila Freivalds, and the intelligence agency SÄPO to contact their internet provider, Levonline, and apparently tell them that this is not suitable. Last night, the web magazine was closed down. "We think that this was the best decision after we were contacted by the Foreign Ministry and Säpo", a representative of Levonline says to Dagens Nyheter.

The Swedish government is putting lives at risk, by showing that threats on Swedes and Danes lead to a change of Swedish policy. Extremists learn that violence works." -Johan Norberg

Yksityiskoulut Suomessa ja Yhdysvalloissa

Postitan tällä kertaa suomeksi, sillä asiani koskee lähinnä Suomea/This is mainly about Finland so the text is in Finnish. Scroll down for a small piece about the Mohammed issue.

1) Lasten on todella helppo oppia äidinkieltä, sillä he eivät joudu opettelmaan sanojen kirjoittamista erikseen. Suomessa kirjoitetaan kuten äännetään.
2) Suomen väestö on kovin homogeeninen.

Kustannustehokkuus on lievästi sanoen päin helvettiä.

Cato-instituutin Andrew Coulson FoxNews-saitilla:

The problem with these systems is not the monetary poverty of the parents but rather the poverty of our own -- and our policymakers' -- imaginations.

When given the chance, low income families make better educational decisions for their own children than state-appointed bureaucrats make on their behalf. Similarly, autonomous educators competing for the right to serve students are far more responsive to families’ needs than those laboring in protected monopolies to which students are automatically assigned.

Numerous studies have found this to be true, both in America's small parental choice plans and in larger programs operating abroad. A recent Cato Institute paper by professors James Tooley and Pauline Dixon found that parent-chosen independent schools in some of the poorest slums and rural villages of the third world are outperforming the local government schools -- and at a fraction of the cost.

"Education has never been a national responsibility in our country, and school systems should not be operated by an agency in Washington." -Albert Shanker

Nykyään epäpätevien opettajien erottaminen on liian vaikeaa. Kalifornian kuvernaattori Schwarzenegger yritti tätä ongelmaa omassa osavaltiossaan ratkaista, mutta epäonnistui, kiitos demokraattienemmistöisen äänestäjäkunnan.

I'll join the rest of the gang in support of Danes against Muslim aggression. Check the flag on the right and place it on your website to show your support for liberal values and particularly the freedom of speech. Underdeveloped Arab cultures don't deserve our apologies.

In Pakistan, more than 300 Islamic students protested, chanting "Death to Denmark" and "Death to France." FoxNews
